Billy Moyer Jr. doubles up in Hell Tour action
By Ben Shelton (Batesville, AR) -- Billy Moyer Jr. won two events during the final week of the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals in his Crop Production Services #21jr Billy Moyer Victory Race Car/ Pro Power Racing Engines Super Late Model. He also won $2,000 for winning the FK Rod Ends Final Week points.
The wins brought his tally for the series to four and gave him six victories overall on the season. He finished second in the overall final standings for the Hell Tour.
“It was awesome to end the Summernationals with a pair of wins and the week championship,” Moyer Jr. said. “We really wanted the overall championship, but there’s no shame in finishing second. Congrats to Bobby [Pierce] he did a great job, and maybe next year we’ll be able to get the championship.
I want to thank my crew guys because they’ve had a lot of sleepless nights over the past month, and they’ve worked incredibly hard. We’re all looking forward to a little bit of a break here as we prepare for the second half of the season.”
Opening Champions Week, Billy Moyer Jr. traveled to Hartford Speedway (Hartford, Michigan) on Tuesday to kick off the final five nights of the 2017 UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour. With 28 Super Late Models registered, Moyer Jr. followed up the fastest time in his qualifying group with a 10-lap heat race win. Earning the pole position for A-Main, Billy jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and held off a few late-race challengers to pick up his fifth win of the season, which came over Jason Feger, Brandon Thirlby, Ryan Unzicker, and Bobby Pierce. He pocketed a $5,000 payday for his dominant performance in the 40-lap affair.
Following a rainout on Wednesday night at Thunderbird Speedway (Muskegon, Michigan), Billy was one of 40 Super Late Models on hand at Merritt Speedway (Merritt, Michigan) on Thursday for the 29th annual Wood Tic weekend. After laying down the third fastest time in qualifying, Moyer Jr. streaked to a 10-lap heat race victory, positioning him on the pole for the main event.
Pacing his way through the 40-lapper, Billy fought a hard-charging Brandon Thirlby late in the race to score his second-straight win and sixth overall on the season. Earning a $5,000 payday for his efforts, Billy Moyer Jr. topped Thirlby, Dona Marcoullier, Rich Neiser, and Bobby Pierce at the finish line.
Billy Moyer Jr. brought a curtain down on the 2017 Hell tour with a doubleheader at Oakshade Speedway (Wauseon, Ohio) on Friday and Saturday. Billy notched a 6th-place finish on Friday night and an 8th-place finish on Saturday evening.
Billy finished second in the final Hell Tour point standings, and he claimed a $2,000 check for being the top earning point’s driver for the FK Rod Ends Final Week. For more results from these events and the final standings, please visit www.TheHellTour.com .
