Top-10 finish in North/South 100 at Florence
On Wednesday afternoon Billy Moyer Jr. returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Florence Speedway (Union, Ky.) for the 34th annual Ralph Latham Memorial. In a stout field of 53 cars, Moyer Jr. posted a fifth place finish in his heat race, sending him into the B-Main. Coming two spots shy of a transfer position with a fourth place finish, Billy had to rely on a provisional into the opening night feature. The following night for the North/South Shootout, Billy came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth place finish. Streaking to a 12-lap consolation victory, Moyer Jr. locked into the 19th-starting position for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Holding his spot for all 50 laps, Billy Moyer Jr. recorded a 19th place finish.
With a pair of heat races on Friday night setting the grid for the North/South 100 on Saturday, Moyer Jr. charged forward five spots in his first round to finish third. After Mother Nature shifted the second round of heats to Saturday afternoon, Billy dropped one spot to place fifth.
Sitting in 15th overall in passing points, Billy locked into the 15th-starting position for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100. After suffering a flat tire on lap-82, Moyer Jr. rebounded from the tail to come home 10th.
Billy sits in ninth in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
