Fourth-place finish in Gene Maine Memorial
On Tuesday afternoon Billy Moyer Jr. made the trip to Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) kicking off the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) Reopening Tour. With 43 cars on hand for the Optima Batteries Golden Isles Nationals, Moyer Jr. edged his way into the opening night feature with the fourth and final transfer spot in his heat race. The following night in a field of 39 cars, Billy fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth place finish. Coming in second in his B-Main behind Brandon Sheppard, Moyer Jr. locked into the 20th-starting position for the $7,000-to-win A-Main. Advancing forward seven spots in the 40-lapper, Billy Moyer Jr. recorded a 13th place finish.
For the final round of the Golden Isles Nationals on Thursday, Moyer Jr. recorded a sixth place finish in his heat before scratching from his 10-lap B-Main. Receiving a provisional into the $7,000-to-win finale, Billy gained nine spots to place 14th.
On Saturday night Moyer Jr. stopped at Needmore Speedway (Norman Park, Ga.) for the inaugural Gene Maine Memorial. Following the second fastest lap overall in time trials behind Kyle Bronson, Billy streaked to an 8-lap heat race victory. With $6,000 on the line in the feature, Billy scored a fourth place finish behind Brandon Overton, Kyle Bronson, and Jonathan Davenport with Brian Shirley coming in fifth.
Billy is currently in 10th in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
