Moyer Jr. visits East Bay for Wieland Winternationals

Billy Moyer Jr. returned to the driver’s seat of his Mesilla Valley Transportation No. 21 Late Model on Monday afternoon at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) as the 1/3-mile hosted the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) for six straight nights of racing.

With 58 Late Models packed in the pit area, Billy timed in 11th-fastest in his group before placing seventh in his heat, sending him into the B-Main. Transferring the top-two into Monday’s prelim, Moyer Jr. fell short with a seventh-place outing.

For the second round of the Wieland Winternationals on Tuesday, Moyer Jr missed a transfer spot by one car in his heat, relegating him into one of three consolation races. He was an early retiree from the 10-lapper on the fourth circuit.

On Thursday evening after failing to qualify for Wednesday’s program, Billy followed up a fourth-place fun in his heat with a fifth-place finish in his B-Main, ending his night early.

In a field of 62 cars on Friday, Moyer Jr. raced his way into the $12,000-to-win A-Main with a runner-up finish in his 10-lap consolation. Improving two positions in the 50-lap affair, Billy crossed the line in 22nd.

An unfavorable forecast axed Saturday’s Wieland Winternationals finale.
